February 2006 Progress

Bob drove to Mulege to return the repaired tractor.
No problems crossing at Tijuana as soon as he showed the green import sheet.
The immigration guys did stop ALL the traffic and pulled him over to check it out anyway.
They asked that next time he was taking some grey area item across,
he should pull into the secondary area.

Whales were spotted in the bay right across from the beach while Bob was there.

The tractor arrived ok and Bob raked the sand piles that were delivered.

The piles of sand we had delivered in October are still waiting to be spread.
Too little EXTRA time this trip.
It's harder to use the tractor than we thought.
We are in the learning curve.

The Chain Harrow we bought works great on the sand and dirt roads.
It's a lot easier than raking by hand!!!

Our neighbors from Campo Naranjos take morning walks daily.

Armando and Delia from
Campo Naranjos
are selling lots and it's like a land frenzy.

Lots are selling like hotcakes!!!

Things are sure changing...
When we bought, no one wanted to buy anything in our area.

The only place Bob went out to eat this trip was at
Melys
in Mulege on Saturday afternoon.
BBQ'ed chicken...UMM....

He went with Norm and Toni.
Toni has some of her paintings displayed here.
Stop by and take a look.

She's quite an artist.

We had a leak in a propane tank hose on the front of the trailer.
Bob drove to Santa Rosalia to refill the tanks.

PropaneStore.jpg propane2.jpg

The part for the leaking propane hose was easily available at the hardware store in Mulege.

While he was there Bob bought a new BIGGER tank.
$660 pesos (~$66 dollars US) for the tank.
$960 pesos (~$96 dollars US) total with gas.
Now we have enough gas to last a long time.

Bob had to pick up his renewed FM3 visa.
Salvador (despachocontable.com) our accountant assisted us with the paperwork.
The immigration building is on Hwy #1 right at the entry to the town of Santa Rosalia and next to the ferry terminal.
The Immigration Office is upstairs.

There is a new regulation this year that states you MUST have a
10 year Temporary Import Permit (TIP)
for your boat to get a Boat Fishing Permit.
This TIP is good for 10 years and costs $50.00 US.

The import officer is required to inspect the boat prior to issuing the permit.
Bob didn't know this and didn't have the boat with him.

The import officer made a call, LOCKED the door to the office...
Hopped in the truck and rode to Mulege to inspect the boat.
They drove back and the officer issued the permit.

ONLY in Mexico do you get this kind of GREAT service!!!

The office to get the fishing licenses is in the government building in the middle of Santa Rosalia.

FishingPermitOffice.jpg FishingPermitSign.jpg

To get a fishing license, you first need to go to the stationary store and buy three Form #5's for each license application.
Bob needed to buy 9 forms at the stationary store.

The Boat Fishing Permit for our 24 foot boat was $650 pesos
($65 dollars US)
The regular fishing licenses for Bob and Susan were $427 pesos each
($42.50 dollars US)
All are good for one year.

The people at the fishing license office were EXTRA helpful.
The office employees filled out the paperwork for Bob which they usually don't do.

Bob got some GREAT service this trip.

We did have some trouble with our inverter but the people at
Solartron
in Victorville were VERY helpful.
Mike at Solartron went out of his way to teach Bob all about the inverter.

This is a GREAT source for all your solar stuff!!!
RewiredInverter.jpg

The Trace inverter was wired wrong from the factory.
Who would have known...
They must have put it together on a friday afternoon.

Efren Hernandez

will start construction of the Casitas in September.

We'll be back....
