Playa Frambes Progress 2004
June 2004
We spent the entire month of May in Mulege. This was the first time we were able to take an entire month off work at one time. We snorkeled, fished, read, kayaked and slept. It was great!
On the way down we slept at the little hotel in Guerrero Negro called The Posada of Don Vicente.
It’s not fancy but clean and only 200 pesos a night (~$18.00). This motel is boat friendly, you can easily park, and had a night time guard in a shack in the middle. Sorry no pictures.
Malimarros is nicer but $45.00 a night.
The first night we stayed in Santa Rosalia at Brenda’s Las Casitas.
The view is still striking.
Brenda keeps the place very nice.
We unhooked the boat, left it at Brenda’s and drove into Mulege to arrange a base camp for the month.
The Orchard Village on the river wanted to charge us $16.00 a night to leave our truck and trailer there.
We thought this was a little too expensive since we were staying for a month.
We went to our neighbors the Naranjos and they made us an offer we couldn’t refuse…
They let us park the truck and trailer and use the showers and “banos” for an incredible amount….$1 a day.
The next morning in Santa Rosalia we went to the bank to get pesos.
Exchange rate was 11.37 pesos to the dollar.
We launched and retrieved the boat at the Naranjos over some rocks.
No problems.
Armando said if we had needed assistance he would pull us out with one of his big trucks.
We slept on the boat anchored near shore.
Second night at the Naranjos and we were invited to one of many “barbeques”.
Many people stay at this camp all winter and don’t leave till summer.
They sure like to party.
Armando and Delia rent “Palapas” right on the beach for $7.00 a night.
Most people bring a motor home, trailer, or camper and park next to the palapa.
They also rent small casitas.
Each has a toilet, shower, stove, two beds, fan, and a solar light.
These are $20.00 a night.
We call this “luxury camping”.
We went fishing with Norm and Jolynn and caught triggerfish, too early for the Dorado.
The fish fed 15 people.
Norm Perluss is quite a fisherman.
Toni his wife is quite a cook…
We snorkeled by the microwave tower.
This is a Great spot! It’s around the corner from us.
On Saturday afternoon a place in Mulege, on the main street, called Mely’s, barbeques chicken.
What a feast.
Don’t miss this if you ever go.
Check out the Mexican paintings on the walls that are for sale.
Norm took us to Santa Rosalia to show us where you get your propane tanks filled.
The plant is just north of town.
Very easy.
They sell tanks there also, big and small.
Propane should be no problem.
The plastic fence looks great.
We will be purchasing more and installing it on our road and entry area.
We are probably the only people in Baja with plastic three-rail ranch fence.
Efern said he would install it as soon as we could get it to him.
More fence is needed.
We will buy it again from
VinylFence.com
Efern is working on a couple of houses in Punta Chivato.
He says the will be completed this summer.
His work is excellent. Actually better than US contractors.
During this trip we realized we need a garage built to store some stuff.
Efern said he could begin in October.
We will need to get him some drawings.
Salvador Orendain Real,
our accountant, is splitting his time between Mulege and La Paz so his wife can continue her education.
She is a teacher.
He has been doing many FM2’s and FM3’s for Americans and Canadians who live in Baja.
All our corporation paperwork is in order.
The month of May went way too fast!!!!
