November 2006 Progress Report

The rock sides of the base are completed.
This is not a block wall for the casitas but a raised platform.

BIG piles of sand were delivered from Punta Chivato...
the quality is better.

Block was delivered from La Paz.
The local sources were too busy to make enough for the project
and the price delivered to Mulege was the same.
The storm in september spurred a huge demand for block in Mulege.

Notice the block is unloaded
ALL by hand
WITHOUT GLOVES!!!
The truck driver stands around while the construction workers
drop the block on the ground...
other workers then pick it up and stack it.

Long pieces of rebar for the concrete were delivered.
These too were unloaded by hand.
This was harder than it sounds...rebar is VERY heavy.
This was a project in it's self.

Footings for the casitas were started.
These footings will be at least five feet under
the casitas when finished.

The rebar for the concrete is cut and formed
in a separate area by the storage shed.

We imported our $400 gas golf cart.
It needed to be cleaned up and repaired.
10-11-7GolfCart.jpg
The import fee was:
$150 for the broker
$130 tax to import (15%)
$66 enviormental tax because it was gas.

The import people valued the cart at $800
even though we only paid $400.
Next time we should detail it in Mulege.

We had it repaired in Rancho Cucamonga CA at KING CARTS.

Lee at KING CARTS went above and beyond and had a steel axel part manufactured.
It was one part from the "junkyard".

Our bamboo furniture for the casitas has been completed by
EXBALI in Bali Indonesia.

Take a look at the Exbali website.

Komo and the team at Exbali
